To Members of the Dystonia Community,

These are uncertain and challenging times. The health and safety of dystonia patients is of the utmost importance to us. To this end, DMRF Canada is closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and its effects. The unprecedented nature of the coronavirus pandemic, in Canada and around the globe, is changing how we live and conduct business. To assist efforts to flatten the curve and reduce the spread and rate of coronavirus (COVID-19), we are following local, provincial and national recommendations.

Recent years have seen a dramatic increase in the marketing, availability, and consumption of cannabis (marijuana) products in Canada and the United States. There is renewed interest within segments of the research community to explore its use to treat numerous diseases and conditions.

The Greater Vancouver Area Dystonia Support Group will be participating in this year’s 5K Scotiabank Charity Challenge on Sunday, June 28, 2020. DMRF Canada welcomes all those in the dystonia community and others in the Vancouver area to participate.

The Jackson Mooney Dystonia Patient Grant was established to provide financial assistance of up to $5,000.00 for Canadian residents who are living with dystonia, in financial need and committed to enhancing their current situation through furthering their education. You can read about Jackson Mooney's experience with dystonia here. To qualify for this grant, an individual must: 

• Have been diagnosed by a medical professional as having dystonia;

Genetic discoveries have been guiding dystonia research for a number of years now. Typically, once new genes have been discovered a quest for understanding the role of their corresponding proteins begins.
