DMRF Welcomes New Scientific Director

The DMRF is pleased to announce the appointment of Joel S. Perlmutter, MD as Scientific Director. (Pictured with Scientific Director Emeritus, Mahlon Delong, MD.)

Dr. Perlmutter is the Elliot H. Stein Family Professor of Neurology and Professor of Radiology, Neuroscience, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy; and Head of the Movement Disorders Section at Washington University in St. Louis and Co-Director of the Dystonia Coalition. He has been a long-time advisor to the DMRF, serving on its Medical and Scientific Advisory Council (MSAC) for over ten years and an active partner to the DMRF in patient educational programming and awareness efforts.

As DMRF Scientific Director, Dr. Perlmutter will work closely with DMRF Chief Scientific Advisor, Dr. Jan Teller and DMRF Vice President of Science, Dr. Richard Lewis in planning and evaluating the Foundation's scientific efforts. He will also serve as the Chairperson of the DMRF MSAC and offer guidance to the DMRF Board of Directors on dystonia research.
