Alberta Idiopathic Dystonia Research Project: To gather data on adult-onset cervical dystonia to improve therapies
This Study will be open until the end of 2026
You're invited to participate in a study investigating how brain circuits are wired and how they function in patients with adult-onset idiopathic dystonia
- Participants must have cervical dystonia and may have more than one type of dystonia.
- Those with a DBS (deep brain stimulation) implant are not eligible to participate.
- It would be ideal (but not mandatory) to invite a friend to participate in the research project who does not have dystonia and is the same gender, age, and handedness.
- The study requires participants to travel to the Calgary Movement Disorders Clinic.
- You do not need to be an existing patient.
- The tests (MRI scan) for the study have no expense to participants. Site parking is covered.
- This study requires a one-time visit. People can register to attend from any region, but the Calgary clinic is the only location conducting the research.
- Research will include a physical exam, questionnaires, and an MRI of the brain.
- Time commitment will be approximately two (2) hours per participant.
