The Calgary Essential Tremor Group has invited the Calgary Dystonia Support Group to join their upcoming meeting on February 24, 2025 from 6PM to 8PM MT. The meeting will be held at Calgary Hellenic lower hall. The address is One Tamarac Crescent SW, Calgary, Alberta, T3C 3B7.
Guest Speaker Dr. Lindsay Knight
Dr. Lindsay Knight earned a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Louisville, with a focus in neuroimaging (MRI, functional MRI). During her PhD, she was involved in a clinical collaboration with neurologists, which aimed to understand brain network changes after an interdisciplinary treatment program for functional movement disorders. Lindsay joined Insightec in 2020 as a Clinical Applications Specialist, providing technical support for FDA-approved focused ultrasound treatments for Essential Tremor and tremor-predominant Parkinson’s disease. She was also the Research Applications Manager at Insightec, facilitating ongoing focused ultrasound clinical trial research before joining the Medical Affairs team as a Medical Science Liaison. Lindsay was also a former professional ballet dancer and still enjoys the occasional dance class. Recently, Lindsay moved back to California to be closer to family, and lives in Sonoma County with her husband and cat, where they love to cook and host dinner parties with friends.

SUPPORT GROUP GUIDELINES: ROLES AND EXPECTATIONS

Participants:
Respect: The behaviour and responses of all in the meeting is one of respect and empathy. This includes recognition and respectful response to individual social, emotional, physical, spiritual and intellectual boundaries.
Time: Attending on time and ensuring that they are capable and available physically and emotionally to participate. All participants will have an opportunity to share their experiences in a timely manner. Monopolizing the conversation for any reason will be redirected. (this includes promotion of products or services)
If a participant does not want to participate and share, they can pass on their turn without judgment.
However, it is important for all in the group to be introduced to each other.
Confidentiality: Everything shared in the support group meeting is confidential. This means that it stays within the group. The exception is in the case of abuse, crime or physical harm. This will be reported to the appropriate authority.
The Group Leader Role:
As well as adherence to the guidelines mentioned above the group leader will:
Welcome the participants, share any news or updates, provide time for introductions as well as the opportunity for each participant to share or pass. Leaders facilitate and keep the meeting moving along and on time. They end the meeting on a positive note and follow up on anything that may have come out of the meeting.
