In the past 30+ years, the Stanford Patient Education Research Center has developed, tested, and evaluated self-management programs for people with chronic health problems.
Format: The Standford Self-Management Program workshops are 6 weeks long, where individuals with various health problems meet once a week for 2.5 hours. These workshops are led by a pair of peer leaders with health problems of their own, who are trained to deliver the workshop . The meetings are highly interactive, focusing on building skills, sharing experiences and support.
The Chronic Pain Self-Management Program has been identified as a program that would be beneficial for dystonia patients.
This 6-week workshop was adapted, expanded, and evaluated by colleagues in Canada, with close collaboration with Stanford. It is designed for individuals who experience chronic pain of any type. Currently, this program is being offered at clinics across the country.
We are thrilled to be able to bring awareness to the program and see if there are any dystonia patients in Canada who are interested in participating. If you are interested in learning more about how you can participate in the program, email us at: info@dystoniacanada.org to let us know and we can discuss possible options and timing with you.
