Sudbury Freedom to Move Walk 2017

12

Wow! You did really well!! Amazing, actually!!  After the walk Dwayne and I got more pledges to topple us over the $20,000 goal that I set for our 20th anniversary. Speaking of Dwayne, he outdid himself this year, raising $10,825. Since 2001, Dwayne has raised $91,490.18 for dystonia medical research.  Pauline, who stepped into my shoes at the last minute, reported that Dwayne works diligently for 3 to 4 months reaching out to about 300 people, getting pledges and promoting awareness. Well done Dwayne!!  I am very proud of the small dedicated group of about 32 people who came out and walked, including Karin Hancin, who came down from Timmins. I was really sorry to miss the 20th anniversary walk. I really wanted to be there but I did my walk in Pickering with my sister and thought of all of you.

Top prize winners for the most pledges obtained were 1) Dwayne Backer 2) Richard & Mary Guy 3) Harry Thompson and 4) Coco Lariviere. These prizes were donated by DMRF Canada. Congratulations to all of you! Honorable mention goes to Lorraine Blais, who came in fifth in pledges, and missed tying with Coco by $20.

A very special thank you to Linda Thompson for once again organizing the BBQ. Food donations came from Linda Thompson, Chris Y.I.G., Tim Horton’s, and Pauline Backer. Thank you to Harry Thompson and sons, Curtis and Kyle, for the delivery and use of their BBQ.  Thanks to our new chefs, Linda Thompson and Denise St. Georges, who replaced Len Shymkiw, who is recovering from hip surgery.

Door prizes were donated by Barrydowne Paint & Wallpaper, Capreol Home Hardware, the Gagne Family (Corinne, Jay, and Beckham) through the Greater Sudbury Police Service, HQ Mortgages Inc (Rico Johnston), M&M Meats, Nordic Bearings, Parry Sound Auto Parts, Querney’s Office Plus, The Rainville Clan, Rusty Cellars, Scotiabank and Topper’s Pizza.

Thank you to all the donors for your generosity.

Thank you to our experienced desk crew of Brenda Morris, Barb Zaitz, Lise Depatie and Sue Leroux for setting things up and keeping track of the walkers and the money that they brought in.

I hear that everything went very well, that everyone chipped in to help in my absence, and that you all got a piece of 20th Anniversary cake, compliments of Pauline Backer.

A very big thank you to everyone who sponsored our walkers and everyone who helped in making the walk such a success.

Gratefully yours, Mary Guy, Support Group Leader Sudbury & District
