DMRF Canada Bingo Volunteer Program Policies
1. Volunteer Commitment & Expectations
- Minimum Participation & Probation
Volunteers are asked to commit to at least six months of service. New or first-time volunteers will undergo a probationary period for their first 3 to 5 assignments, during which they will serve as the third (backup) volunteer on shift to ensure experienced coverage.
- Referral Requirement
All volunteers must be referred by a current DMRF Canada member or volunteer.
- Physical Readiness
Volunteers should be capable of walking or standing for their 2-hour shifts and must assist with tucking in chairs at events.
- Code of Conduct
Volunteers are expected to maintain a professional demeanor and behave in a way that builds public trust and confidence in the Foundation.
- Dress Code
Volunteers will receive a DMRF Canada t-shirt, which must be worn during each shift and kept clean and presentable.
2. Shift Scheduling & Attendance
Shift Coverage
A minimum of 3 (three) volunteers per shift will be scheduled to ensure that at least two are always present, even in the event of a last-minute cancellation or emergency.
Attendance Confirmation
Volunteers must confirm their shift at least 4 hours in advance. Lack of confirmation will be treated as unavailability.
Absence Notification
- Notify staff at least 1 week in advance if you cannot attend a shift.
- Respond to reminders within 24 hours.
- In case of emergencies, at least 24 hours notice is required.
Warnings & Ineligibility
- Volunteers under probation who are late or no-show will be deemed ineligible.
- Permanent volunteers will receive 3 (three) warnings before being removed from the program.
3. Compensation & Reimbursement
- Per Assignment Compensation
Volunteers will receive:
- $50 per completed assignment
- Up to $50/day travel reimbursement (with receipts)
- A $200 honorarium after completing 10 assignments within 12 months
- Reimbursement Process
Receipts must be submitted to DMRF Canada. Payments will be processed within 60 days via cheque to the address on the waiver form.
4. Recognition & Public Engagement
- Public Acknowledgement
Volunteer names, photos, hours contributed, and funds raised may be published on the DMRF Canada website.
- Milestone Recognition
Upon completing 20 assignments (raising approx. $30,000), volunteers will receive the Dystonia Canada Fundraising Volunteer Award and may be featured in newsletters.
