Dr. Davide Martino - Biography

After training at the University of Bari, Italy, a fellowship in Movement Disorders at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London and an appointment as Consultant Neurologist and Honorary Lecturer at King’s College London, Dr. Martino has been since December 2016 Director of the Movement Disorders Program and Associate Professor, Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Radiology, University of Calgary.

Dr. Martino is a movement disorder clinical researcher with experience in collaborative multidisciplinary research encompassing neurostimulation, brain imaging, neuropsychology and epidemiology. He has a specific training and expertise in non-invasive brain stimulation and epidemiology, focused on network disorders, primarily dystonia, Tourette syndrome and Parkinson’s disease. The overarching goal of his research program in idiopathic dystonia is to identify biomarkers of progression of dystonia over time using neurophysiological, psychophysical, MRI-based and genetic markers, and to explore their role as predictors of response to treatments.

Dr. Martino is also interested in exploring non-invasive physical and neuromodulation-based interventions to improve posturing and gait/balance difficulties in cervical dystonia.
