SUPPORT GROUP GUIDELINES: ROLES AND EXPECTATIONS

DMRF Canada Support Advisory Group, August 2024. Revised August 2026.

Participants:

Respect: The behaviour and responses of all in the meeting is one of respect and empathy. This includes recognition and respectful response to individual social, emotional, physical, spiritual and intellectual boundaries.

Time: Attending on time and ensuring that they are capable and available physically and emotionally to participate. All participants will have an opportunity to share their experiences in a timely manner. Monopolizing the conversation for any reason will be redirected (this includes promotion of products or services).
If a participant does not want to participate and share, they can pass on their turn without judgment. However, it is important for all in the group to be introduced to each other.

Confidentiality: This meeting is a private, supportive space for people living with dystonia and their caregivers to connect, share experiences, and access relevant information.
Anyone outside this group must disclose their affiliation and purpose for attending to the support group leader before the meeting.
Everything shared in the support group meeting is confidential. This means that it stays within the group. The exception is in the case of abuse, crime or physical harm. This will be reported to the appropriate authority.

Identity Verification: To help protect the privacy and safety of everyone attending, all participants are required to identify themselves when joining the meeting. Individuals who cannot be identified may not be admitted or may be removed from the meeting.

No Recording or Capture of Content:

Recording or capturing any part of the meeting, including but not limited to audio, video, screen recordings, screenshots, photography, live streaming, is strictly prohibited.

The use of AI tools to record, transcribe, summarize or analyze the meeting is not permitted.

Meeting content cannot be shared, distributed, published, or posted to third parties or on any platform, including but not limited to social media, websites, messaging platforms, or other public or private channels. Participants who do not comply with these requirements may be removed from the meeting and may be prohibited from attending future DMRF Canada events.

The Group Leader Role:
As well as adherence to the guidelines mentioned above, the group leader will:
Welcome the participants, share any news or updates, provide time for introductions as well as the opportunity for each participant to share or pass. Leaders facilitate and keep the meeting moving along and on time. They end the meeting on a positive note and follow up on anything that may have come out of the meeting.

By entering the meeting, you acknowledge that you have read and accepted the terms above.
