SURVEY for Family Physicians, Neurologists, and Neurosurgeons

Mixed Methods Survey of Stakeholders to Estimate Prevalence and Identify Barriers to Accessing Deep Brain Stimulation in Canada

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a surgical treatment available to some patients with certain motor disorders (Parkinson's Disease, essential tremor, primary dystonia) where a small device is implanted within the brain to help treat symptoms. A thorough assessment by a multidisciplinary team determines candidacy for this surgical treatment, as not all patients with these diagnoses would benefit from this therapy. A group of researchers from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario (Dr. Melissa Lannon and Dr. Sunjay Sharma, Division of Neurosurgery), are conducting a research study to determine if patients across Canada have reasonable access to this treatment and if any barriers exist to accessing this surgical treatment for motor disorders.

You are being invited to complete the brief, voluntary survey as a part of this research study. Study closes end of May 2023

Please note the surveys are separated by specialty (i.e. one for family physicians, one for neurologists, one for neurosurgeons). Kindly click the below attachments based on your specialty.
